Hello,
As with all my projects this one started with one part ( the Simons Forks) and grew from there. I got the crazy idea to try and put together a Steve Wise Fox/Mugen CR125 from 1977, so the search was on and the parts were acquired. The most difficult to find, of coarse, being the NOS Mugen Cylinder , head, intake, carb and correct piston and rings. Some parts I found still on dealer shelves and others came from private parties for which I paid way too much, but when you got to have it.....
All in all, it took about 2 years to get the parts together and do the build. The motor bottom end was completely rebuilt and includes a heavy duty crank. The forks were machined to flip the lower triple clamp over just like the Wise bike.
Thor of Evolution Suspension Products did all the machining on the forks e.g. Stem, triple clamps and axle to make them fit perfectly and then powder-coated everything in clear. Thor also did the rebuild and restoration on the Fox Airshox. A great guy if you need any work done.
17" Fox Airshox and correct swingarm were used. Sun rims with SS spokes were installed. I always try and copy as close as possible the original bike so I used a low foam seat, NOS Circle Industries rear sprocket, NOS Pro-Tec chain tensioner, NOS "Tony D" front fender and other goodies.
Still would like to find a real Mugen pipe for her, but for now the reproduction stamped pipe is a nice substitution. Everything else was polished, plated, powder coated or painted to duplicate the original finishes as close as possible.
This was a very satisfying build as it was more work than usual with some rare part finds. This one will never be started or even have gas in it as long as I own it. If you have any questions please contact me at speeder760@sbcglobal.net.
Enjoy,
