Bike of the Month - February 2007

This is my 1974 CR125M Elsinore with a modified swingarm, DG pipe & 17 fin radial head and Works Performance shocks. The motor was rebuilt and has a big bore wiseco piston. The bike sat in pieces in my garage for 24 years after getting it back from my old friend Steve. I could not sell it for parts over the years because it had to much sentimental value.
After 18 years of talking about restoring it I jumped head first into the project in February of 2006. Ten months later this is what turned out. It was a fun and frustrating project all in one. Dick Smith was the owner of the CR during the summers of '75 and '76. I was racing an XR75 early that summer when he asked me if I wanted to race it. Man, that was cool when you're only 15 years old. We ran the local tracks around eastern Iowa. Tipton Hills Raceway (aka Wild Country), Otter Creek Motorsports. There were a lot of trophies won with that bike.
The mid 1970's was the best times of my life racing the old Elsinore. Thanks to everyone who helped on the project. Brian, Ryan, Doug, Steve, Hawkeye Motor Works, Vintage Iron, and Payne's Cycle Center.
