Bike of the Month - October 2006

Hi Guys, My name is Shane Wilson and I live in Brisbane Australia, I have included some shots of my 1979 CR250R that I have just finished rebuilding.
This is the first of two bikes I am restoring. Myself and my older brother are racing in vintage motorcross here in Australia.
I have always been a Honda man and raced the CR125R version of this bike (when new) but never had the money to buy the CR250R version.
I now have a steel fabrication business with my own powdercoating plant (so this comes in very handy for bike resto work!) but in the case of this bike all the red is two pack painted.
I purchased the bike from a guy in Sydney who was racing it at the time and started to rebuild it over the past 18 months.
I had Ohlins shocks on back when the smaller pictures were taken, but have just rebuilt a set of Fox Shox for it and have also just found an OEM front guard (fender) to fit! I have also fitted a pair of 41mm '81 CR250R forks to it. These can be seen in the main picture.
I have stripped the bike and replated (zinc plated) every spoke, nut and bolt and also replaced a lot with stainless steel bolts.
The bike had its maiden outing as a race bike two weeks ago and a first up race win!! (more good luck then rider skill!)
PThe pipe is a hand built pipe from Geoff Morris Concepts in Melbourne, Australia and he does a nice job of it. Wheels are standard rims, powder coated frame, motor and plastics are two pack paint colour matched to an NOS barrel I have, the shocks are the only thing I have not rebuilt.
Hope you like it,
Shane |
